Free AI Glasses
for Blind Veterans
Meta and the Blinded Veterans Association are giving Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses at no cost to every legally blind American Veteran, roughly 130,000 people. The glasses read mail and medication labels aloud, describe what's in front of you, identify objects, translate, and handle calls, all by voice, and they look like ordinary Ray-Bans. There's no subscription and no charge.
Two things worth knowing before you read further: you don't have to be totally blind to qualify, since legal blindness generally means 20/200 or worse in your better eye with correction or a visual field of 20 degrees or less, and you don't need a VA rating at all, because the blindness doesn't have to be service-connected.
This is a private donation program rather than a VA benefit, so VA can't process it for you. This page walks through who qualifies, the three ways to get a pair, what to bring, and the VA benefits that blind and low-vision Veterans are separately entitled to and almost never claim, including special monthly compensation that pays above the 100% rate, guide dogs, adapted vehicle and housing grants, and the VIST coordinator at your VA medical center who can arrange all of it for free.
