Jobs: Working with a Disability
Can you work and still get VA disability pay? For most veterans, yes. A schedular rating, even 100% or Permanent and Total (P&T), has no income or work limit. TDIU allows only limited work, but it has a 12-month protection if you try a full-time job. This free plain-language guide explains the work rules for each type of rating, your rights under the ADA and USERRA, and how to ask for reasonable accommodations for PTSD, TBI, tinnitus, back pain and other conditions. It also covers federal hiring perks like veterans’ preference, the 30% or More Disabled Veteran program and 104 hours of disabled veteran leave. You’ll also find free job help through VR&E, Compensated Work Therapy, American Job Centers and your state’s vocational rehabilitation agency, plus how VA pay works with SSDI and SSI. Every rule links to its official source.
